Summer is on the horizon, Houston. In between the influx of margaritas, mandatory ice cream stops, and visits to the local waterparks, it’s important to catch some r-and-r at a poolside bar. Opening for the season on April 29, El Segundo is an adult-only oasis where Houstonians can take a dip, catch some vibes, and even do some poolside reading.
“We’re ready to welcome you back to El Segundo Swim Club! We will officially reopen for the season on Saturday, April 29,” the bar wrote in an Instagram post.
El Segundo is a 21+ splash pad located at 5180 Avenue L in Second Ward. Complete with palm trees, lounge chairs, and a retro vibes, El Segundo offers sunbathers the chance to unwind or turn-up depending on the mood. With a full bar, private cabanas, and DJs on the weekends, the swim club is the place to make a splash.
From behind the bar, visitors can opt for libations by the pitcher, glass, bottle, or can. Pitcher options (available in small and large sizes) include Paloma, Amor Prohibido, and Miraflores. Beer, seltzer, wine (by the bottle or by the can), and champagne are also available.
Perceptive visitors also find the “By The Book” section at the bottom of the beverage menu. Here, visitors can purchase a paperback from their selection of short summer reads. Present selections include The Stranger by Albert Camus, This Is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz, and Picture by Lillian Ross.
While El Segundo itself doesn’t feature an on-site kitchen, during peak hours, local food trucks stop by with poolside provisions.
El Segundo reopens for the season on April 29. This season, the pool will host a festival-worthy lineup of DJs for their ongoing Soundwaves series featuring DJ sets from such artists as Neon Indian, Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear, Twin Shadow, Washed Out, and more!
“We have a bunch of new things planned including our 🌊SOUND WAVES event series with national DJs making appearances with 90 or 120 minute DJ sets at sunset.”
Once up and running, the bar will be open from 11 am to sunset on Saturdays and from noon to sunset on Sundays.
General day pass is priced at $20.
