Discovery Green Has Opened An Outdoor Ice Rink In The Heart Of Downtown

Glide into the holidays this season!

Discovery Green in Downtown, Houston has announced the return of their outdoor rink this season. From now until January 13, Discovery Green is hosting public skates at the foot of Houston’s skyline. [Featured image: @discoverygreen]

“Glide beneath the glittering lights of downtown Houston and discover the holiday magic on The Ice powered by Green Mountain Energy,” the organization writes on their event page. “We have reinvented the experience to ensure that you can still make memories here with your family and friends.”

Due to the circumstances, Discovery Green is taking extra health and safety precautions, including:

  • increased frequency of sanitization
  • contactless buying
  • reduced capacity to 50%
  • tickets sold in advance for timed slot
  • staff and visitors must wear masks at all times inside the venue

As per tradition, Discovery Green is be hosting a series of themed nights for skaters to enjoy on their renewable energy-run rink. Mondays is Cheap Skate Night, when tickets will be available at reduced prices. On Tuesdays from 7 – 7:15 pm, Houston’s top figure skaters will perform for the crowds for Skating with the Stars.

On Wednesdays between 7 and 9 pm, DJ Mohawk Steve are bumping music trends through the decades, from the swing, jazz, blues, and big band of the 1940’s to the glam rock, pop, hip-hop, and country of the 80’s and more. Of course, there will also be plenty of holiday hits to enjoy closer to Christmas! Speaking of music, DJs will is also spinning their own bops on Fridays between 7:30 pm – 10 pm excluding Christmas Day.


Good boys and girls can get some ice time with Santa on Thursdays this December from noon – 1 pm for their Skate with Santa! sessions.

The Ice is now open. Forever Green Members are able to skate or free so long as they sign a waiver beforehand and have their membership ID on hand.
