Discovery Green in Downtown, Houston is bringing their outdoor ice rink back for the holiday season. From Friday, November 15 at 6 pm to Sunday, February 2, Discovery Green is hosting public skates at the foot of Houston’s skyline for the newly-dubbed Frostival. [Featured image: @discoverygreen]
“Glide beneath the glittering lights of downtown Houston and discover the holiday magic on The Ice powered by Green Mountain Energy,” the organization writes on their event page. “We have reinvented the experience to ensure that you can still make memories here with your family and friends.”
The Green Mountain Energy Ice rink at Discovery Green opens at 5 pm on Friday, November 15. On opening night, the first 50 skaters skate for free. The event will also feature the debut of “Atlas” light installation from artist, Jen Lewin, along the Brown Promenade as well as live music and performances from the winners of the Discover Houston Music showcase. Visitors can also enjoy American fare from The Lake House on site.
New this year to the Downtown, open-air ice rink is bumper cars. From January 6 to January 19, Discovery Green will roll out the exciting ice activity for visitors 42 inches or taller priced at $20 for seven-minute rides.
Until February 2, the organization hosted hosts a variety of themed nights. Past events included Cheap Skate Nights, Skating with the Stars, Clutch City Wednesdays, Skate with Santa, Flashback Fridays, and Skate Party Saturdays.
The rink also hosts inclusive skates accommodating for varying needs on Tuesdays in December and January.
First Responders and Military typically receive a $2 discount for groups up to five people.
Check their website for hours of operation. Tickets are $18 including skate rental for 75-minute intervals. All tickets must be purchased online.
