Alright, alright, alright. In celebration of the Oscar-winning, Texas-born actor, Alamo Drafthouse are renaming its Mueller theater in East Austin the “Matthew McConaughey Cinema”. The Texas-founded theater chain will host an official dedication ceremony this coming week during an early screening of the actor’s latest film.
“We can confirm, Alamo Drafthouse Mueller will officially become the Matthew McConaughey Cinema, a celebration of the actor, producer, proud Texan, and all-around Austin-icon,” Alamo Drafthouse wrote in an Instagram post.
“From his immortal arrival in DAZED AND CONFUSED to the cosmic emotional wallop of INTERSTELLAR, and the hard-won humanity of DALLAS BUYERS CLUB, McConaughey has always brought a little Texas to the screen. Born in Uvalde and forged in Austin at the University of Texas, he’s traveled just about everywhere a movie career can take you without ever losing his connection to Austin”.
Alamo Drafthouse will host an official dedication ceremony on Monday, August 10. As part of the ceremony, the event will feature a special early screening of McConaughey’s latest film, The Rivals of Amziah King. The special event will feature an introduction from the actor, himself, followed by post-screening Q&A featuring director, Andrew Patterson, and lead actress, Angelina LookingGlass.
While the dedication ceremony is a private event, Alamo Drafthouse locations across the country will feature special Cocktail Party screenings of The Rivals of Amziah King. At these participating locations, the cinema will offer a special themed cocktail, King’s Sting, a honey-infused drink spun with Pantalones Organic Tequila. Visitors can also enjoy a take-home cocktail kit and recipe card.
Unfortunately for us, this experience is not available in Houston.
The Rivals of Amziah King is described an American, neo-Western crime thriller set in Oklahoma. Along with McConaughey and Angelina LookingGlass, the film stars Kurt Russell. The film will see a limited theatrical release on August 14 followed by a nationwide release on August 21.
