Weekend plans? Make room for a little route planning.
According to Houston TranStar’s construction schedule , several major freeways will close for this weekend including full shutdowns on stretches of southbound I-69 and westbound I-610 North Loop beginning at 9 p.m. Friday. Both are scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.
Not every closure follows that same timetable, though: the I-69 connector to the West Loop closes Saturday morning, while I-10 and SH-249 have shorter shutdowns. Here are the closures to keep on your radar.
I-69 Southbound: Hazard To Greenbriar Drive
All southbound lanes of I-69 between Hazard and Greenbriar Drive are scheduled to close continuously from 9 p.m. Friday, October 9, until 5 a.m. Monday, October 12.
TranStar’s listed detour directs drivers to take Exit 126B toward Shepherd Drive, continue along the frontage road and re-enter the freeway at the Greenbriar entrance ramp.
I-69 Southbound Connector To I-610 West Loop
The southbound I-69 connector ramp to I-610 West Loop will be completely closed from 7 a.m. Saturday, October 10, until 5 a.m. Monday, October 12—not from Friday evening.
For drivers heading to I-610 southbound, the posted detour is to continue south on I-69, exit at Chimney Rock Road, make a U-turn and re-enter I-69 northbound. From there, drivers can take the direct connector to I-610 southbound.

I-610 North Loop Westbound: Irvington Boulevard To I-45
Westbound I-610 North Loop will be completely closed between Irvington Boulevard and I-45 North from 9 p.m. Friday, October 9, until 5 a.m. Monday, October 12. The westbound connector ramp to I-45 South will also be closed during that period.
TranStar directs traffic onto I-45 northbound to Crosstimbers Street, where drivers can make a U-turn and proceed south on I-45 to reconnect with I-610. The same Crosstimbers detour provides access to I-45 southbound while the connector is closed.
I-10 Eastbound: Heights Boulevard To Oxford Street
Eastbound I-10 between Heights Boulevard and Oxford Street will have a full overnight closure from 9 p.m. Saturday, October 10, until 5 a.m. Sunday, October 11.
The posted detour directs eastbound traffic to exit at Studemont Street and continue along the frontage road. TranStar lists the Heights Boulevard entrance ramp as the re-entry point for eastbound main lanes.
SH-249 Southbound: Spring Cypress Road To Chasewood Park Drive
Southbound SH-249, also known as Tomball Parkway, will be completely closed between Spring Cypress Road and Chasewood Park Drive from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 10.
Drivers will be directed to take the Chasewood Park/Cypresswood Drive exit, follow the southbound frontage road past Compaq Center Drive and re-enter the freeway at the next entrance ramp.
Check The Schedule Before Heading Out
Before setting off, check Houston TranStar’s weekend construction report for the latest schedule and follow posted detour signs. All closures are subject to change because of weather, emergency work or other events.
