The Main Street Promenade is set to make its Houston debut this weekend!
Approved by the Houston City Council in March 2023, the Main Street Promenade in Houston is a pedestrian-friendly corridor spanning seven blocks between Allen’s Landing and Dallas Street.
The Main Street Promenade has successfully transformed a former roadway into a pedestrian-only space. The updated streetscape features large patios, retail activations, four permanent shade structures, and 85 new trees—increasing the tree canopy by 154%.
“The theme on Main Street is going to be outdoor cafes to start, and so we really want to create a vibrant, happening retail environment,” said director of planning at Downtown Houston+, Cassie Hoeprich.

Future additions to the promenade will include blue-and-white tile street markers and a custom ground mural located by the Preston Street rail stop.
A year after beginning construction on the development, Main Street Promenade is set to celebrate its grand opening. Kicking off at 11 am on Saturday, May 30, officials are gearing up to host an all-day block party and celebration with live music, local vendors, and resident businesses.
“Be among the first to experience Main Street in a new way – with more room to walk, explore and enjoy the heart of Downtown,” the event page reads.

“Open to all, this day-long celebration is filled with live entertainment, street performers, DJs, local vendors, and all the businesses that make this corridor so unique”.
Good Times on Main: Grand Opening Block Party at Main Street Promenade takes place on the corner of Texas Ave and Main Street from 11 am – 6 pm on Saturday, May 30.
The Main Street Promenade Grand Opening is completely free to attend.
