Organizers are repurposing the historical concrete silos in Katy by creating an expansive beer garden, food hall, banquet hall, and family-friendly spaces in a scenic environment.
Back in 1943 JV Cardiff & Sons built the first silo, essentially a large cylindrical rice storage facility and the very first rice dryer in Texas. Later in 1966, the company added on with the tallest rice dryer in the country standing at 177 feet high. Production at the silos would cease in 1987.

In 2021, local developer, Hadi “Andrew” Nurcahya, purchased the property with the intention of turning it into a mixed-use, community gathering space. Among the coming properties at what’s now called The Dryer include The Dryer Museum, Katy Beer Garden, banquet facility, and multi-vendor food hall consisting of Fusion Grill, Taqueria Tex-Taco, El Canton Pizzeria, Jos’Brisket, Noodle & Satay.
“This is a historic building,” Nurcahya said. “I don’t know how, but we somehow got a hold of it—and now we’re going to [preserve it] as much as possible. We’re not going to try to change it. We’re going to work around it and respect it.”
Slated to open imminently, the scenic Katy Beer Garden will feature 25,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, 45-foot oak trees, and a diverse beer, wine, and cocktail program.

The Katy Beer Garden is a project from Steven Salazar previously of Kirby Group, the team behind Holman Draft Hall, Heights Bier Garten, and Pitch 25.
“Our mission is to recreate the ambiance and aesthetics of Munich’s beloved Bavarian beer gardens, marrying it with our own unique Texas hospitality,” Salazar stated in a release. “The result? An unrivaled beer garden experience for Katy and beyond.”
