When does the outdoor ice rink in Downtown Houston open?
Ice at Discovery Green in Houston reopens for the holiday season Friday, November 21 with a special Opening Night Celebration from 5 – 10 pm. The special event will reward the first 50 visitors in line with free skating sessions.
Furthermore, the Opening Night Celebration will see the debut of the brand new H-Town Holiday Lights created by holiday light-extraordinaire, Frankie To-ong. Presented by PNC, the light spectacle will feature Space City themes and synchronize to Houston music.
Once in operation, Ice at Discovery Green will be open from 5 pm – 10 pm from Monday through Thursday. from 5 pm – 11 pm on Fridays; from 11 am – 11 pm on Saturdays and HISD school holidays; and from 11 am – 8 pm on Sundays.
The ice rink will have special hours on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Even, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Martin Luther King Day.
The ice rink will be open from November 21, 2025 – February 16, 2026.

What special events are planned for Ice at Discovery Green in Houston?
Throughout the season, Discovery Green regularly hosts themed nights at the Houston outdoor ice rink. Special events for the season at Ice at Discovery Green include Skating with Santa on the following dates: November 29, December 6, December 13, and December 20.
Additionally, Ice at Discovery Green hosts a special Skating with the Stars where skaters can glide among Houston’s top figure skaters on Tuesdays and Sundays from November 23 to December 30.
Ice skaters can also enjoy special DJ nights taking place on Saturdays, with themes that include Today’s Pop Hits (November 29), Old School Reggaeton (December 13), R&B on Ice (January 17), and Love Songs (February 14).
Not to bury the lead, Discovery Green is also bringing back Bumper Cars on Ice! Running from January 2, 2026 – February 16, Bumper Cars on Ice! invites visitors to slide, slip, and crash in special tubes on ice. Tickets are priced at $20 plus tax.

Tickets to Ice at Discovery Green in Houston will be available through the Discovery Green website. Tickets start at $18 plus tax. Tickets enable ice access for 75. minutes. Tickets must be purchased online, unless purchasing for inclusive skate nights.
Discovery Green offers $2 discounts for military, first responders, Green Mountain Energy employees and customers, and HAR.com employees and customers.
On Monday nights throughout Ice at Discovery Green, the organization hosts special Cheap Skate Night Mondays where visitors can enjoy the ice at a special discount price of just $9 plus tax per skater.
