Houston has another feather in its cap. While we here have long recognized Space City as the incredible food city that it is, iconic culinary publication, Food & Wine, has named Houston as one of the best food and drink cities in the United States.
Over the past few years, Houston’s food scene has gradually gotten a larger spotlight across the country for its culinary concepts. This past year, Michelin officially expanded into Texas awarding multiple Houston restaurants with Michelin Stars, Bib Gourmands, and official recognition.
Its latest accolade comes from Food & Wine. As a part of its 3rd annual Global Tastemakers Awards, the publication has highlighted the cities in the United States that are the best for food and drink. For the first time since the publication launched the awards, Houston was named in the top 10 food cities placed at No. 9.
For its write-up of Houston, Food & Wine lauded the diversity of the city’s culinary scene and highlighted Crawfish & Noodles, Truth BBQ, and Tatemó.
Here’s what Food & Wine had to say about Houston:
“The addition of Houston to this list is no surprise to anyone who’s experienced the Texas city’s vibrant and diverse food scene. Sample Viet-Cajun cuisine with crawfish doused in garlicky butter at Crawfish & Noodles, try handmade corn tortillas and heritage corn tepache at Tatemó from 2023 F&W Best New Chef Emmanuel Chavez, or Texas-style brisket at Truth BBQ.”
The best food city in the United States, according to Food & Wine, is New York City.
