Houston’s culinary scene shines again. The publication, World’s 50 Best, have recently announced the results for their list of North America’s 50 Best Bars 2022. Coming in at number 46 is Houston’s own libation lounge, Julep.
The World’s 50 Best is a publication that celebrates the universality and diversity of the culinary scene. Each year, their panel of 1,080 culinary experts identify the best of the best in food and drink around the world operating on a “structured and audited” voting procedure.
The publication recently released this year’s top 50 list of bars in North America:
“The inaugural ranking celebrates the continent’s top spots for all kinds of libations – from tiki bar cocktails to a classic Manhattan,” the description reads. Readers will find not only the publication’s top bars in the United States, but Canada and Mexico, as well, with cities ranging from Montreal to Havana and everywhere in between. Well, almost everywhere.
Throughout the top 50 list, only one Texas bar made the cut: Julep. Owned by cocktail connoisseur, Alba Huerta, the bar’s menu reflects Huerta’s utmost interest in Southern spirits – particularly bourbon. In addition to bourbon-based drinks, see its dual Julep cocktail sections as well as Whiskey and Whiskey list, the bar features vodka, gin, agave, rum, cognac, and low-alcohol options.
“True to name, Julep exudes the elegance of the Whiskey South.” the publication writes. “Flowers make the bright, airy room even more welcoming and provide a hint at the menu to follow. Owner Alba Huerta is a master at creating unique flavours by incorporating herbs, spices and even vegetables into drinks.”
According to the publication, the number one bar in North America is Attaboy in New York, New York.
Julep’s Happy Hour features half-off cocktails and wines by the glass from 4 to 5:30 pm from Monday to Friday. Otherwise, the bar is open from 4 pm to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and from 4 pm to 2 am on Fridays and Saturdays.
