The word is out on Houston food. It’s some of the best you’ll find in the entire country – a sentiment we’ve all felt before but it wasn’t until recently that it was officially confirmed. The recognition continues to roll in for Houston’s culinary scene; recently, a study published by Lawnstarter.com named Houston as the fifth best barbecue city in the USA.
Lawnstarter is a website and application that connects property managers and homeowners to lawn care professionals and other services. The company also regularly publishes studies and various rankings on subjects ranging from bird-watching to bachelorette party destinations.
Recently, the publication released a study in which it ranked Houston as the fifth best city for barbecue in the United States – and the absolute best barbecue city in Texas.
In conducting its study, the company applied a system that leveraged categories, factors (and the weight of factors of) access, consumer satisfaction, competition awards, elite BBQ memberships, and hosting.
“Houston (No. 5) is Texas’ BBQ star, with the 2nd-largest number of top-rated BBQ vendors and the most cooking teams finishing in the top quarter of the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest,” the company wrote in its study.
“Houston tied with San Antonio (No. 31) and New York (No. 14) for 2nd place in top-rated smokehouses. Meanwhile, Austin (No. 12) and Dallas (No. 36) claimed the 5th– and 6th-highest numbers of top-rated BBQ vendors, respectively.”
The best city in the US for barbecue, the study found, is Kansas City, Misssouri, followed by St. Louis, MI, Kansas City, KS, and Memphis, TN.
