Tsk tsk, Houston. A new study named Houston as one of the most sinful cities in the United States.
The study was commissioned by PokerTube. Billed as the ‘world’s largest Poker Media website’, the site features a wide collection of videos and resources for poker players and fans.
To determine the most ‘sinful’ city in the country, the study compiled comprehensive data from over 200 cities in the U.S. Key data points factored into its index include the following:
- Adult entertainment infrastructure (strip clubs, adult stores, casinos, tattoo shops)
- Proportion of single residents
- Rates of STDs
- Excessive drinking rates

According to the study, Houston is sixth most sinful city in the country. Per the report, its salacious score was in large part due to STDs:
“Houston breaks into the top 10 most ‘sinful’ cities with a composite sin score of 8.45 out of 10. With a sizeable nightlife footpring including 242 bars, 63 pubs, and 52 casinos, the data highlights notable health concerns”.
“Chlamydia rates stand at 491.9 per 100,000, alongside elevated levels of gonorrhea and syphilis. In particular a syphilis rate of 238.6 100,00 across the state is more than seven times the rate recorded in New York State”.

For those concerned about the sinfulness of Space City, you can at least take some solace in the fact that this time last year, Houston was ranked as the second most sinful city in the country. That study, conducted by WalletHub, factored in data largely based on the biblical seven deadly sins.
Pokertube’s study determined that New York City, New York is the most sinful city in the country. Its bustling nightlife scene is largely responsible for the score, featuring over 1,400 bars, 109 nightclubs, and 375 pubs.
