If you’re like us and are already ready for the weekend, this Thursday and Friday aren’t going to make it any easier for you. Ahead of the weekend, forecasters are predicting heavy rain in Houston areas with the possibility for minor flooding.
Space City Weather has reported an upper-level disturbance in the atmosphere said to portend from 6 to 10 inches of rainfall in Texas areas beginning Thursday. As for Houston, the weather publication predicts that Southwest areas of Houston in the Matagorda Bay region will receive the brunt of the rainfall.

The likeliness of heavy rain will increase Thursday night. Space City Weather predicts somewhere between 1 and 4 inches of rain, the higher amounts in certain areas particularly in the coastal region. In light of this, the forecaster has issued a Stage 1 flood alert Thursday and Friday. The Stage 1 Space City Weather Flood Scale expects an impact of “nuisance street flooding, frontage road flooding, some minor impacts in a few locations”.
Space City Weather explains that while the heavy rain and possible flooding is not in fact a certainty, residents of affected areas should prepare for such precipitation.
The Weather Channel presently predicts a 50% chance of rainfall during the day Thursday, increasing to 70% at night forecasting half an inch of precipitation. The outlet expects thunderstorms with an 80% chance of rain on Friday with likely thunderstorms Friday night at a 60% chance of rain.
Forecasters expect for the rainfall to clear up by Saturday morning at the latest – though with a possible stray shower – with the partly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 80s for the rest of the weekend.
