
As of this article, it continues to snow in Houston. Schools are closed, airports have suspended flights, and officials are encouraging residents across the city to stay off the roads. While Houston and Texas at large might receive mockery from states that regularly experience snow with jests and memes and whatnot, it should be known that Winter Storm Enzo has made Houston presently colder than many parts of Alaska.
In the wee hours of this Tuesday morning snow began to fall in Houston. Predictions the past few days ranged from snow accumulation of three inches to five inches, and the possibility for higher amounts in certain Houston areas. If it reaches snowfall above 4.4 inches, it will the largest snowfall in 65 years and mark the second greatest snowfall in the city’s history.
While we’ll have to wait on see whether or not Winter Storm Enzo will break any snowfall records in Houston, the cold alone is significant. For at least today, Houston is colder than Alaska.

At the time of this article, it is 29 degrees in Houston (pictured above) with a feels-like temperature of 19 degrees. Comparing this to conditions in Juneau, Alaska, where it is 35 degrees with a feels-like temperature of 32 degrees.
Throughout the day, both cities are predicted to hit a high of 37 degrees. However, the sub-freezing temperatures that began the Houston morning will return this evening hitting a low of 29 (feels like 22) while Juneau, Alaska (pictured below) will have comparatively toastier weather in the 35-36 degree margin until midnight.

A Weather Storm Watch is presently in effect in Houston until 6 pm this Tuesday. During which time, Houston officials encourage everyone to stay off the roads. ERCOT recently announced that it expects for grid conditions to be stable through the duration of the storm. For what it’s worth, Centerpoint Energy recently announced that it has activated an emergency operations center and deployed three staging sites with around 1,200 workers for potential restoration efforts.
