If you haven’t already, it’s time to break out those tank-tops, flip-flops, and other garments from your warm weather wardrobe this week because it’s going to get hot. This week, forecasters expect for Houston temperatures to climb up into the upper 90s – giving the city a summer preview before the warm season officially arrives.
Following a spotty Mother’s Day weekend – a mixed bag of sunshine and occasional showers – temperatures in Houston forecasters predict for the temperatures to climb throughout the week – topping out Wednesday with temperatures in the upper 90s.
Precisely how hot it will get this week in Houston is still up for question. The Weather Channel predicts a high of 96° while Apple Weather forecasts a high of 98°. In any case, forecasters confer that it will be very hot in Houston this Wednesday and Thursday, meaning Houstonians should dress accordingly, drink plenty of water, and be mindful of their pets.
Come weekend, Houston temperatures will gradually cool down with, according to The Weather Channel, highs of 95°, 94°, and 93° for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, respectively. So if you’re looking to get a taste of the summer experience, it’s a good time to hit the beach, go for a swim, and/or float a lazy river.
As far as the grid is concerned, experts believe that state’s electric grid, ERCOT, will retain stable conditions with higher levels of energy supply than expected demand. For instance, ERCOT expected peak demand around 84,000 kilowatts, where the highest ever energy demand for Houston was 77,000 kilowatts which occurred this past May.
Doug Lewin, host of the Energy Capital podcast, reiterated the system’s ample storage supply of energy: “We have so much solar in storage on the system right now. It makes a huge difference”.
“We’re not looking at the 110° kind of area which is really when you look at things like transformers and some of the other equipment on the electric grid really kind of start to melt down – literally and figuratively”.
