Houston’s historic Fifth Ward is celebrating a massive milestone this weekend for the 13th Annual Lyons Avenue Renaissance Festival. This weekend’s festival marks 160 years of the community’s deep-rooted culture and history.
Organized by the Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation and the 5th Ward Cultural Arts District, the festival will feature four stages of live music, a community marketplace packed with a 150 vendors, the city’s largest helicopter egg drop, and more.

The musical heart of the festival features four distinct stages, headlined by national recording star Cupid Best known for the “Cupid Shuffle,” the artist is expected to lead what may be the city’s largest outdoor line dance right in the middle of the street.
The lineup also pays homage to the neighborhood’s own legends, featuring a performance by Fifth Ward native and blues powerhouse Trudy Lynn. Other highlights include the soulful sounds of The Voice alum Desz and the high-energy Afro-Caribbean rhythms of Son d’Aché.
Beyond the main performances, the festival offers a wide variety of activities for all ages. Perhaps the most anticipated moment for families is the city’s largest urban helicopter egg drop, where thousands of treats are released from the sky for local children.

“The Lyons Avenue Renaissance Festival continues to be one of the most anticipated community celebrations in Houston’s historic Fifth Ward, bringing together more than 6,000 residents and visitors each year,” said Kathy Flanagan Payton, president and CEO of Fifth Ward CRC. “For one afternoon, Lyons Avenue transforms into a vibrant destination filled with music, art, food and community pride.”
The 13th Annual Lyons Avenue Renaissance Festival takes place this Saturday, March 28, from noon to 5 pm. Entrance is located at 3700 Lyons Ave. The festival is completely FREE to visit. The helicopter egg drop takes place at 3 pm.
