Inject this straight into your veins: Grey’s Anatomy is coming to Texas.
Confirmed by Deadline earlier this week, ABC has ordered a Grey’s Anatomy offshoot medical drama based in West Texas. The presently untitled project is described as “an edgy drama about a team at a rural West Texas medical center – the last chance for care before miles of nowhere”.

Premiering in midseason 2026-2027, the new series will be co-created, written, and executive produced by Grey’s Anatomy original creator, Shonda Rhimes, and Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis. Star Ellen Pompeo is also attached to the offshoot as an executive producer.
Marinis, herself, is a Houston native and alumna of the University of Texas at Austin.
“I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe,” Marinis said in a release.
“This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”

The untitled spinoff marks the fourth expansion of the Grey’s Anatomy franchise. Previous expansions include Private Practice, Station 19, and Grey’s Anatomy: B-Team. However, the new series will not focus on an existing character from the main series, but instead offer a new ensemble cast. What connections exactly the new characters will have to the original cast are still yet unknown.
While the specific release date has yet to be released, the network plans to air the show during the 2026-2027 season. Grey’s Anatomy is presently streaming on Hulu. Its 22nd season concluded earlier this May.
