Memorial Day Weekend is known as the unofficial start to summer. This Memorial Day in Houston – with a heat index wavering in the triple digits – it’s safe to say it’s summer in Houston. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning in the Houston/Galveston area until 10 pm this Monday.
Houston’s Memorial Day forecast is set to be brutally hot and humid. Until 10 pm Monday, an Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for the inland Harris County area with what the National Weather Service has called “dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 114 expected“.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the hottest recorded Memorial Day temperature in Houston history was 96° back in 2004. Temperatures are expected to tie the record at a predicted 96° degrees this Memorial Day. The heat is predicted to reach its peak around 4 pm this afternoon, with temps expected to dip at sunset around 9.
Affected Houston areas under the Excessive Heat Warning today include: Austin, Inland Harris, Washington, Waller, Fort Bend, Colorado, Wharton, and Montgomery counties.
In light of the heat, the National Weather Service recommends staying hydrated with plenty of fluids, staying out of the sun, and taking advantage of air-conditioned spaces. At these temperatures, car interiors are susceptible of reaching lethal temperatures within minutes, wherein people should not leave pets or children in unattended vehicles.
Those planning on exercising or doing other strenuous physical activities outdoors should try to do in the morning or at night.

Monday evening there is marginal chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures are predicted to continue to drop throughout the week, with an increased chances of scattered thunderstorms beginning Wednesday all through the weekend.
