NASA-based company, Eden Grow Systems, has debuted a new vertical indoor farm inside the 32-story Niels Esperson Building at 808 Travis St. in Downtown, Houston.
The innovative vertical farm will go up in phases at the landmark Esperson Building in the heart of Houston. With easy access from Houston’s downtown tunnels, the new Eden Grow Tower allows citizens to grow their own food in any climate all year round.
Presently, the Esperson Building farm has a 1,200-square foot vertical farm showroom on display. Future plans will see the utilization of a 4,000-square-foot space, followed by the transformation of a whole floor into a usable farming space, according to Chron.

Once in operation, citizens will be able to grow their own produce, including greens, tomatoes, strawberries, root vegetables, and more without pesticides, GMOs, or herbicides. Through their aquaponics technology, farms can even harvest freshwater fish or shrimp.
“Esperson aims to be a ‘Vertical Entrepreneurial Village’ where wealth creators live, work, and play. In that context, we have teamed up with Eden Grow Systems to become a vertical indoor farm where our people grow their own food on every floor of our building,” said Dougal Cameron, Manager of the Esperson Building in a press release.
The company in part markets their services to hobbyists, some of whom might not be so familiar with farming. In an effort to facilitate or otherwise alleviate the time-consuming strain of farming, the company utilizes a control system (ECS) that automates the grow operation following the planting of the seeds.

“With commercial real estate continuing to suffer in most major metropolitan areas, Eden is pioneering a new and innovative way of taking these spaces and breathing new life into them. We see a future where every unused space can be transformed in profitable farms, creating new jobs, better food security, and a healthier way of growing for our planet. This is the future, and we are excited to be a part of it.”
