For the second day in a row, ERCOT has asked Texans to reduce energy usage. The Conservation Appeal is in effect from 6 – 9 am.
“ERCOT has issued a Conservation Appeal for Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 6 – 9 a.m. CT,” officials posted on its Twitter account.
“With the winter storm encompassing the entire state and temperatures forecasted to be colder this evening and into tomorrow morning, ERCOT is asking Texans to conserve electricity use, if safe to do so. At this time, if you are experiencing an outage, it is local in nature and not related to grid reliability.”

As of the publication of this article, The Weather Channel has a Hard Freeze Warning for south central and south east in effect until Wednesday at 9 am. The Hard Freeze Warning is issued in accordance with sub-freezing temperatures as low as 13 degrees.
The Weather Channel has also issued a Wind Chill Advisory for the same areas until noon on Tuesday, January 16, for cold wind chills as low as 0 degrees.
“Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold,” the organization writes on its website. “To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.”
