Two Houston public artworks have been nominated in the 2026 CODAwards Top 100!
Produced by CODAworx, the CODAawards Top 100 is a celebration the world’s finest intersections of art and design. Featuring international entries, the awards honor projects that seamlessly integrate commissioned artwork into public, architectural, and interior spaces.
Submissions are evaluated by an expert jury of art, architecture, and design leaders who assess each project across three key areas: its integration into the surrounding space and effect on viewers, the strength of collaboration across the entire design team, and the artwork’s overall creative vision and technical execution.
Two Houston projects have been selected for the CODAwards Top 100: Arc ZERO and Undercurrents at Buffalo Bayou Cistern:
“Together, the installations engage in a dialogue across the landscape, inviting visitors into a shared sensory experience that evolves from day to night and blurs the boundary between the natural and the engineered”, the CODAwards website reads.
Positioned along the water at City Place Park, Arc ZERO by James Tapscott is an interactive installation that consists of two luminous rings of mist titled Eclipse and Nimbus that offers visitors an enchanting viewing experience.
Arc ZERO is presently on display at City Place through August 23.
In celebration of the Houston cistern’s centennial, officials debuted Undercurrents earlier this spring. The multi-media, interactive installation from Rafael Lozano-Hemmer sees a labyrinth of LED lights suspended over the water’s surface. Here, visitors are invited to record messages which spark pulses of light and create a soundscape within the subterranean venue.
Undercurrents at Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern is on display through January 24, 2027. The cistern is located at 10-B Sabine Street. Ticketing starts at $15.
Both projects are presently in the running for CODAwards’ People’s Choice awards. The deadline to vote is July 31. Interested parties can vote here.
