The holidays are nigh. Gearing up for the most wonderful time of the year is North Houston’s City Place. Famed for its Gingerbread Village, City Place will reprise its beloved holiday tradition on top of numerous other festivities including its returning Water Lantern Festival, Dia De Los Muertos festival, art installations, and more!
The festivities at City Place will kick off with the Dia de los Muertos celebration. Taking place on Saturday, November 1, the celebration will be a vibrant festival of cultural performances, family activities, as well as altars there to honor passed loved ones. The event runs from 4 pm to 8 pm, and is completely free to attend.

Later in November, City Place will debut its VOUW interactive art installations. Created by the internationally acclaimed studio based in Amsterdam of the same name, VOUW features three immersive and interactive pieces that weave play, light, storytelling, and movement that allow for visitors to engage in interesting ways.
From November 21 to November 23, City Place will host its Water Lantern Festival. Here, festival-goers are invited to be among others as they deploy thousands of illuminated lanterns across the lake. Food vendors, live performances, and more will also feature at the event.
On November 22, City Place will reprise its beloved Giant Gingerbread Village experience with new and improved features. A week later, visitors can marvel at its Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony taking place at the village on Sunday November 29, which will include all sorts of family friendly events including face painting, live music, a snowscape, and special appearance by Santa Claus.

Throughout the months City Place will continue to host its regular programming. Featured events include its Band Sculpt and Yoga on The Plaza on Saturdays as well as Toddler Time with Miss R on November 15, Texas Bubblers Master Bubble Wrangler Station on November 16, and the Fun Bus on November 8. Additionally, organizers will host a screening of Coco on Sunday November 2 at 6 pm. Tamales and mini conchas will be on sale during the event.
All events at City Place are completely free to attend.
