Cirque du Soleil is back. This October, the fantastic circus returns to Houston with OVO. Meaning “egg” in Portugese, OVO is a fan-favorite Cirque du Soleil production that stages a playful love story complete with immersive stage design, dynamic choreographies, a live score, and much more.
The circus originally debuted OVO back in 2009, where it toured across the country before expanding to arenas. The production was put on pause during the pandemic before emerging once again in 2024 as new reimagined and enhanced performance. Set in a vibrant ecosystem, inhabited by the likes of contortionists spiders, juggling ants, and soaring butterflies, OVO takes follows a playful love story of a fly falling for a butterfly. The production is a dramatic insight into the everyday lives of insects.

Imbued with themes of possibility, renewal, and cycles of change, OVO celebrates the smallest creatures and beauty of nature in motion. True to Cirque du Soleil, OVO features the circus’s signature larger-than-life set design, stunning visual effects, a moving score, mind-bending choreographies, and breathtaking acrobatics.
“OVO presents the world of insects with the emphasis on constant movement and color,” said writer, director, and choreographer, Deborah Caulker. “I have a very physical choreographic language, and for me, the insects’ movements translate into emotion”.
Featured OVO acts include foot-juggling acts, aerial butterfly acrobatics, the Orvalho dragonfly balancing act, gravity-defying spider slackwire, and crickets Trampowall performances. Created by Berna Ceppas, the production’s score blends elements of samba and bosa nova with funk and electro music.

By all accounts, Cirque du Soleil’s OVO is suitable for children.
OVO takes place at the Toyota Center in Houston from October 2 – October 5. Tickets to the event are now on sale on multiple platforms. For more information about the production and ticketing, visit the Toyota Center website here.
