Cirque du Soleil needs no introduction. The surreal circus, renowned for its mind-blowing pageantry, incredible acrobatics, and sensational feats of strength, is back in Houston with a brand new southern-spun show.
Following its debut in Nashville, Houston marks the circus’s second stop of Songblazers, an original, country music-inspired performance from the minds behind Cirque du Soleil set to take the stage this August.
What is Songblazers?
Songblazers is a whole new, country-themed show from Cirque du Soleil. Directed by Amy Tinkham, Songblazers follows the story of two aspiring country stars looking to make it big while paying tribute to country music’s legends and contemporary trailblazers.
Songblazers was developed in collaboration with Sam Williams, the son of Hank Jr., and grandson of the legendary Hank Williams – as well as contemporary country star in his own right.
“The title idea came to me pretty easily after becoming acquainted with Cirque du Soleil,” says Williams.
“Where I come from, most people don’t get to go to the circus. We go to county fairs and carnivals, and the carnival in a small town is filled with joy, excitement, mystery, euphoria, you name it. That feeling is one you always remember, and I think the roller coaster of emotions lines up with what you want to feel seeing such an incredibly beautiful production such as Cirque’s.”
