The sun is shining on Houston this season. Solecita Churrería y Taqueria, a brand new Mexican street food, churro, and taco truck has opened Downtown and let us tell you: it’s a beauty.
Tracing back to 1967, Solecita’s owner, Debbie, took a trip out to the Mexican silver-mining town of Taxco. Here, Debbie witnessed vibrant streetscapes, steep hillsides. backdrops of mountain tops, fruit carts, and the community eating al fresco. Here in Houston, she has brought that slice of Taxco to share with the city at her colorful new churrería y taqueria.
Tucked into the space at 413 Travis St., next to Frank’s and El Big Bad, Solecita offers a delicious variety of dine-in and to-go options. Its simple and sweet menu is comprised of tortas, tacos, and churros. As for the savory side, Solecita features a variety of stewed and marinated meats – including Chicken Tinga, Carnitas, and Beef Birria – of which customers can enjoy in torta or taco form. The former is served on toasted Mexican telera bread, along with Mexican cheese, refried beans, lettuce, tomato, and garlic-chipotle mayo.
Their tacos come on hand-made corn and/or flour tortillas with onions, cilantro, and lime. Additional toppings are available, as are sides in the form of chips & salsa and chips & guacamole.
Sweeten up the experience with an order of churros. Available in quantities of one, four, and a dozen – unless you order more, obviously – Solecita offers a variety of delicious dipping sauces including guava, cajeta, white chocolate, strawberries & cream, and Mexican hot chocolate – sauces priced at 75 cents a piece.
As for their refreshments, Solecita offers an extensive selection by which to wet your whistle. Non-alcoholic options like aguas frescas and teas, soda, coffee, and hot chocolate are available, as are more uplifting spirits, such as beer, seltzer, and a selection of divine frozen margaritas.
Cruise down to Solecita at 413 Travis St. from 11 am – 2:30 pm Monday through Saturday.
