In the wake of Hurricane Beryl, later reclassified as a tropical storm, over 2.7 million Houston residents were left without power. Now two days later, over a million residents and businesses are still affected by power outages amid a Heat Advisory.
Recently, CenterPoint Energy and Entergy have both issued updates regarding the ongoing Houston power restoration.
The majority of the Houston residents affected by power outages are customers of CenterPoint Energy. Last night, the energy company published an updated statement upholding that it will restore power by the end of today.
“As of 8 p.m. CT, CenterPoint has restored electricity to more than 850,000 customers, representing more than one-third of customers impacted by Hurricane Beryl.”
“With damage assessment well underway, CenterPoint remains confident it will restore 1 million impacted customers within 48 hours of the restoration process.”
CenterPoint also recently released an energy map revealing its ongoing Houston power restoration process. The new map came in the wake of an emerging trend of Houstonians using the Whataburger mobile app to discern which areas had or did not have power.
As of last night at 8:30 pm, Entergy reported that it was on track to restore power to 50% of clientele by Wednesday. The company doesn’t expect to fully restore power to affected customers until Sunday.
“Entergy Texas storm crews have made significant progress assessing damage and restoring power to customers affected by Hurricane Beryl,” the company stated. “As of 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, approximately 189,000 customers are without power, which is down from the peak of approximately 252,460 outages Monday afternoon.”
The ongoing outages coincide with a Heat Advisory in effect for Houston. This Wednesday, July 10, Houston is expected to experience feels-like temperatures as high as 104 degrees according to AccuWeather.
Those without power can find resources and refuge at the city’s cooling centers. Visitors are apprised to monitor flooding conditions and call the cooling center beforehand to ensure that it’s equipped.
