Get a coffee with all the cool cats at El Gato Coffeehouse. Nestled in the heart of The Heights is El Gato Coffeehouse a feline fave and Houston cat cafe and rescue.
The idea for the concept originated back in July 2020. Beset with the myriad challenges posed by the pandemic, El Gato emerged with the intention of making the necessary funds to house 14 – 20 foster cats. Thus, El Gato Charities was formed to work in tandem with El Gato Coffeehouse, Houston’s first cat cafe and rescue.
In addition to offering a warm, cozy space for its feline staff – hoping to find their forever homes – El Gato Coffeehouse features a comfortable atmosphere for guests to snuggle up and enjoy cat therapy sessions, contribute to the socialization of the cats, and enjoy a nice cup of coffee and/or tea.
“In our cat cottage, our feline friends are given free roam and are well-socialized. This means that their personalities can really shine through when potential adopters visit,” El Gato writes on its website.
As far as the menu goes, the cafe offers coffee shop classics such as French press coffee, hot chai latte, hot chocolate, and iced matcha. The cafe also offers a short culinary menu, with options that include cinnamon rolls, cookies, vegan bars, and muffins.
El Gato recommends booking visits in advance due to high occupancy. Individuals can book a visit for $18 an hour. Private group bookings are also available for $110 an hour for a party up to 6 people. Children visitors must be aged 5 or older.
El Gato Coffeehouse is now open at 508 Pecore St suite a. The cafe is open between 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm Monday – Thursday; 12:30 pm – 5:30 pm on Fridays; 10 am – 5 pm on Saturdays; and from noon – 5 pm on Sundays.
