Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) is investing approximately $2.3 billion in a new 600,000-square-foot biopharmaceutical manufacturing campus at Houston’s Generation Park. Announced earlier this August, the facility will support the production of new medicines from late-stage development through commercialization.
The Bristol Myers Squibb Houston campus
Spanning approximately 600,000 square feet, the upcoming campus will manufacture a diverse range of treatments, including small-molecule drugs, biologics, and antibody-drug conjugates. The facility will streamline the shift from development to commercial production, getting new medicines to patients more efficiently.
As a key component of BMS’s five-year, $40 billion plan to expand domestic manufacturing and strengthen U.S. supply chain resilience, construction is slated to begin in 2027, with the campus expected to be brought online during the 2027–2030 period.
“This investment reflects our confidence in America’s continued leadership in biopharmaceutical innovation,” said Christopher Boerner, Ph.D., Board Chair and CEO of Bristol Myers Squibb in a press release.
“As part of our $40 billion commitment to the United States, we’re building the domestic manufacturing capabilities needed to deliver the next generation of medicines and support future scientific breakthroughs. Houston and the state of Texas offer the talent, infrastructure, and partnership needed to help bring that vision to life.”
Nearly 500 skilled jobs expected
Additionally, the development will drive significant job creation by generating nearly 500 permanent skilled roles –including positions in engineering, quality control, and laboratory operations – alongside roughly 2,000 construction and indirect jobs.
Why Houston
BMS chose Houston over multiple central and eastern U.S. locations due to its established infrastructure, access to major transportation, and large pool of specialized talent. Furthermore, the state of Texas offered the development $4.89 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant among other available incentives.
The investment is expected to solidify Houston’s growing life-sciences ecosystem. Additionally, the project aims to generate new opportunities for local businesses and encourage partnerships with Houston-area schools and training programs.
