Tubing is a Texas tradition that is an absolute must come summertime. Here in Houston, you can find all sorts and shapes of lazy rivers, whether it’s a Texas-shaped rooftop pool, or a waterpark attraction. While a number of waterparks in the Houston area have lazy rivers, Big Rivers Water Park is home to longest lazy river in the city.
Opened a few years ago, Big Rivers Waterpark is an all-terrain amusement park. Here, visitors can make a splash on its many water wonders – from a plethora of slides to its floating obstacle course – take to the sky on ziplines or rock climbing, or keep their feet on solid ground with land-based activities like archery and axe-throwing.
As for its aquatic entertainment, the park boasts a number of Texas-sized attractions. In addition to its Rio GRAND River, the longest lazy river in the Houston area, Big Waters also claims the largest Texas interactive play structure, Gator Splash, and the tallest waves in Houston at its Boca Chica Bay wavepool.
Big Rivers Water Park and Adventures also features a full-sized fairgrounds, where Houstonians can scratch the itch for rodeo-like rides ranging from its Rolling Thunder rollercoaster, Screaming Eagles, Twister, and 140-foot SPINdletop rides. More gentle rides are also available at the fairgrounds for the little ones.
If you want to dry off before the drive home, see it’s many dryland attractions. Such include axe-throwing, a petting zoo, forest maze, archery, fishing hole, mining area, and gator interaction area.
Big Rivers Waterpark is located at 23101 State Highway 242, New Caney, TX 77357. Day passes are available starting at $25 – prices vary by date. These tickets, which provide access to all of the park’s attractions, must be purchased at least a day in advance. Anyday tickets are available starting at $44.99.
Big Rivers Waterpark is open from 11 am to 7 pm Sunday through Thursday, and from 11 am to 10 pm Friday and Saturday through August 10. From August 16 to September 1, the waterpark is open from 11 am to 7 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
