Brunch with a side of horror history? Texas has just the place. The house featured in the original 1974 The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is still standing—and these days, its visitors arrive with an appetite rather than an escape plan. Now home to Hooper’s, the restored movie house in Kingsland serves Southern-inspired food, cocktails, and weekend brunch.
With Halloween approaching, the restaurant is also leaning into its cinematic roots. From October 30 through November 1, 2026, Hooper’s will host “Halloween at the House,” a free weekend celebration with spooky activities, live music, and appearances by actors from the film.
The Original Movie House Has A New Address
The house wasn’t always in Kingsland. Originally located in the Round Rock area, where it appeared in Tobe Hooper’s horror film, the building was later moved and restored. Today, you’ll find it at 1010 King Court in Kingsland, near Lake LBJ. The restaurant’s name pays tribute to the film’s director.
That makes this more than a horror-themed dining room: you’re eating inside the actual house used in the movie, albeit at a different location from the original filming site. Its present-day role is considerably more welcoming, with a scratch kitchen, cold drinks, and Southern-inspired dishes.

Swap The Scares For Southern-Inspired Brunch
Hooper’s serves weekend brunch alongside lunch, dinner, and drinks, so you don’t have to wait until Halloween to visit. The restaurant describes its food as classic Southern pub fare with a modern twist, complemented by handcrafted cocktails. Its current website lists brunch service until 2 p.m.
For a recent taste of what’s on offer, try out the fried pickles and jalapeños, grilled chicken sandwich, and chicken-fried steak. Menus can change, so check the restaurant’s latest offerings before planning your meal around a particular dish.
There’s A Free Halloween Celebration This October
If you’d rather experience the house at its spookiest, “Halloween at the House” runs October 30–November 1. The announced festivities include classic cars, live music, carnival games, costume contests, and actors from the movie. Admission to the weekend is free, and the volunteer-hosted carnival activities are free, too.
Hooper’s will remain open for restaurant service during the celebration. On Saturday, Churchrow Tejas BBQ will also serve a special selection of Texas barbecue for purchase—so free admission doesn’t mean food and drinks are included.
