The holidays may be all about spending, but here’s an opportunity to do some earning. Amazon has announced plans to hire 6,000+ workers across Greater Houston ahead of the holiday rush, with seasonal employees earning an average of $20 an hour, according to the company. The local recruitment drive includes seasonal, part-time, and full-time positions.
The Houston openings form part of a much larger hiring push: Amazon plans to recruit more than 300,000 workers nationwide, including approximately 26,500 across Texas. Locally, positions will be based at fulfillment centers, sort centers, delivery stations, and similar facilities throughout the region, an Amazon spokesperson told the Houston Chronicle.

How much do Amazon’s holiday jobs pay?
Amazon says seasonal employees earn an average of $20 per hour. That’s an average—not a guaranteed starting rate for every seasonal listing—so applicants should check the pay advertised for each opening. Full-time operations employees start at a minimum of $20 an hour, according to the company.
For anyone hoping their holiday job might last beyond the festive season, Amazon says seasonal employees may have opportunities to transition into full-time positions. Those transitions aren’t guaranteed, but the hiring drive includes both temporary and longer-term roles.
New health coverage is coming for qualifying seasonal workers
There’s also a benefits change on the horizon, though it won’t take effect during the holiday hiring period. Beginning January 1, 2027, seasonal employees working at least 30 hours per week will become eligible for health care coverage. Qualifying seasonal employees already on staff will become eligible on that date, while qualifying employees hired from January 1 onward will have access from their first day. Amazon says plan options will start at $5 per week, with $5 copays.

How to apply for Amazon jobs in Greater Houston
Job seekers can search Amazon’s official hiring website for available Houston-area positions. The company says it will post new opportunities weekly from October through December, so an initial search won’t necessarily show every role available during the hiring push.
Applicants can also text NEWJOB to 31432 to receive alerts about openings in their region. According to Amazon, most hourly warehouse and operations roles don’t require a résumé or interview—although applicants should check the requirements, schedule, and pay for the specific position before applying.
