The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officially broke ground on a landmark agricultural complex on September 17, marking the beginning of what the organization calls its most significant infrastructure project ever. The facility, named The Farm — short for Furthering our Agriculture and Ranching Mission — will span approximately 1 million square feet across 350 acres along Highway 288.
The complex is designed to expand the Rodeo’s year-round capacity well beyond its existing footprint at Reliant Park. When it opens for the 2029 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, The Farm will host livestock and horse show competitions, agricultural education programs, youth initiatives, volunteer activities, and community events.

The facility is also positioned as a premier equestrian destination, built to attract competitors, exhibitors, and spectators for major horse shows throughout the calendar year.
The name itself came from the community. The Rodeo ran a multi-phase naming initiative that invited volunteers — the backbone of the organization — to submit ideas rooted in its mission and values. Finalists went through an internal review before being opened to a broader public vote, giving both longtime volunteers and the wider Houston community a hand in shaping the project’s identity.
“As we move toward our centennial, the groundbreaking of The Farm reflects our commitment to building not only a world-class facility, but a stronger future for Texas youth and agriculture,” said Wesley Sinor, chairman of the board. President and CEO Chris Boleman echoed that vision, describing the complex as “a year-round destination for agriculture, education and community.”

The project represents one of the largest private investments in agriculture and education in Texas. Sponsorship and naming rights for various components of the complex — including educational facilities, event spaces, and program areas — remain available.
