Satisfy your munchies this season at Cheba Hut, a “toasted” sub shop and neighborhood hangout opening up in the Houston Arts District just in time for 4/20.
Founded back in 1998, Cheba Hut is a national sandwich chain that wears its affinity for the electric lettuce on its sleeve. With outposts in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas, Cheba Hut has opened their latest joint in Sawyer Yards.
The sub shop carries over 30 different kinds of sandwiches using white, whole wheat, and signature garlic herb hand-rolled Parisian bread. Its selection, zany flavors, and wide-array of ingredients makes it reminiscent of Mellow Mushroom.
Featured signatures include the White Widow – a chicken, bacon, and ranch sandwich filled with mushrooms, provolone, tomato, onion, pickle, shake and house dressing; the 5-0 – a spicy, meat-stacked sandwich containing smoked ham, genoa salami, prosciutto, pepperoni, bacon, and other toppings; and the Chronic – a BBQ roast beef sandwich with green bell pepper, mushrooms, cheddar, and vegetables.
Cheba Hut also offers a variety of vegetarian options, as well as soups, sides, and treats such as their (Rice Krispy) Treat Bar. As for its libations, the joint carries a number of non-alcoholic options ranging from iced tea, fountain drinks, and Kool-Aid. It also has a full bar stocked with local beer and spirits, as well as themed cocktails like the Brass Monkey, Gin N Juice, and Bloody Mary Jane.
“Cheba Hut ‘Toasted’ Subs (Houston-Sawyer Yards) is located in Houston, TX right in the heart of the Houston Arts District,” the shop writes on its website.
“Our shop features three murals by a local artist, which are a tribute to the incredible music and arts culture that is undeniably ‘Houston.’ We are a dog friendly neighborhood hangout with a full bar and large patio, where we specialize in curing cottonmouth and the munchies.”
Note: the sandwich shop doesn’t actually use any cannabis, or cannabis-adjacent, product in their cuisine. Cheba Hut is now open in Sawyer Yards.
Don’t skip on Happy Hour, which starts at (you guessed it) 4:20 and ends at 7:10.
