The town of Fredericksburg in Texas is wildly renowned for its charming vineyards. While there are surely a number of standout wineries in the town, there’s none other like this one. The newly opened Rhinory is a vineyard that doubles as a rhinoceros conservatory. Here, visitors can sip on varieties of wine while mingling with the farm’s residential rhinos.
Located in Fredericksburg, on a humble patch of 44 acres of Hill Country, The Rhinory is a wild new winery that offers visitors a tasting experience found no where else in the state.
In an effort to assist in rhino conservation, the family-owned winery decided to combine those efforts with that of a vineyard. In effect, the land would grant the rhinos plenty of space to graze, while sales from the vineyard and associated merchandise would go toward their partnership with the International Rhino Foundation.
“Our goal is to provide an exceptional experience where people can walk in and learn about rhinos, experience rhinos in an environment much more personal than a zoo, drink great wine in a beautiful setting, and help rhino conservation while doing it,” the organization notes on its website.
Here at The Rhinory – which, we just have to say, is an amazing name for such a concept, is it not? – visitors can sip from a variety of wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Rose, and other specialty options.
Once everyone has their wines, a rhinokeeper will guide visitors through the property, bringing them up close and personal with the rhinos, while providing more information about the resident rhinos and necessary conservatory efforts. Lucky visitors will also get the chance to feed the rhinos.
The Rhinory is located at 13112 E US 290 in Fredericksburg, TX. Visitors can make a reservation through its website here.
