Kids these days will never understand the joy, excitement, and curiosity of perusing the shelves of a video store. Before the time of streaming, algorithms, and binge-watching TV shows, there was the neighborhood video store. While many would consider remaining outlets as vestiges of the past, there are some who are ready to bring them back into the fold.
Opened this past June in Sugar Land, Wynn’s Network Plus – of the Wynn Network streaming service – is a brick-and-mortar video rental venue, coffee shop, bakery, and nostalgic hangout. The new venue is the project of author, producer, and bishop, John Wynn.
Wynn is also the CEO of the eponymous Wynn’s Network, an OTT streaming platform that marries entertainment and inspiration. As for his desire to open up an in-person video rental store, Wynn told the Houston Chronicle that he wanted to foster a place of connection.
“My place of connection is through brick-and-mortar restaurants and theaters,” said Wynn. “I think more and more people want to go back and feel the same connection you can only find by being out there.”
Wynn Network Plus is stocked with over 6,000 movies and TV shows – compare that to Netflix’s some 3,600 movies and 1,800 TV shows. For those who are unsure whether or not they still own a DVD player, never fear, Wynn Network Plus also rents out portable DVD players.
The store is also fit with an 80-inch screen, wherein which the venue plans to host movie screenings in the near future. Patrons can also find an assortment of pastries via Cake & Bacon as well as Katz Coffee on location.
Wynn Network Plus is now open at 4127 Texas 6 in Sugar Land. The cafe and DVD rental venue is open from 8 am – 7 pm Monday-Thursdays, and from 8 am – 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
