They say everything is bigger in Texas, guess that includes our hearts. A recent survey has named Texas as the third most romantic state in the country – eat your heart out, California – through online data related to interests in romantic trips, songs, and more.
The recent analysis was conducted by AI-generated erotic story source, SmutFinder. To conduct its ranking of the most romantic states in the U.S., researchers used keyword data via Google Keyword Planner over a year-long period ending April 2025. Its scoring system leveraged per capita interest with, to a lesser extent, overall search volume between states.

Key categories of the analysis included online searches related to:
- Being romantic – conveying general interest in romantic expression, ie. date planning, gift giving.
- Romantic trips – reflects interest in couple vacation spots and romantic getaways.
- Romantic media – conveys interest in romantic entertainment, ie. books, movies, and shows.
- Romantic songs – demonstrates affinity for love songs.
Data based on these metrics was then indexed, combining to generate a Romance Score for each state. The top 5 romantic states in the country, according to this analysis, are as follows:
- New York
- Illinois
- Texas
- Ohio
- California

Here’s what the survey had to say about Texas:
“Texas comes in third, combining Southern charm with modern passion. It ranks third for being romantic and performs above average in all other categories, including romantic trips, media, and love songs,” the publication reads.
“Whether it’s a road trip getaway or a playlist full of heart, Texans seem to embrace romance with big energy and even bigger heart.”
The rankings also indicated the five least romantic states in the country, those are as follows: Idaho, Montana, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Arkansas – with Idaho being the least romantic.
