Houston might not have a professional ice hockey team, but it’s got Stanley cups. This past Wednesday, eager (largely Gen Z) shoppers lined up at Targets across the country to get their hands on a special drop of the coveted cup. In Houston it was no different.
The as-seen-on-TikTok drinking container is a 40-oz insulated tumbler available in a multitude of colors. Much like the similarly famous Yeti, the Stanley mugs keep drinks warm (or cold) for long periods of time.
Lately, it has been all the rage on social media. The viral nature of the mug resulted in it being the most searched product on Amazon during the holiday season.

Stanley mugs usually fall in the price range of $35 – $45, but special editions are listed up to to $300 online.
This past Wednesday, Targets across America dropped a new pink Stanley color-way and collaboration with Starbucks, causing a ruckus amongst stores and shoppers. Images and videos from the drop revealed lines, overnight waits, and heated disputes both verbal and allegedly physical.
In Houston, however, it was relatively tame compared to videos and images emerging from the likes of Arizona and Florida. Though local Targets did see shoppers lining outside of stores as late as 3 am. Images from recent TikTok videos also reveal a police presence as well as reported confrontations – though as of yet, none of the alleged incidents were caught on film.

“We are seeing an enthusiastic response to the Starbucks x Stanley Quencher and many stores have sold out,” a Starbucks representative told Today. “It will not be restocked.”
