If someone’s ever approached you about trying out for the basketball and/or volleyball team (unprompted), this event is for you. Billed as a community event for tall folks, “The Tall Tour” lands in Houston this weekend.
While the event is branded “all sizes welcome” the tour mainly caters to VIP access, that is, vertically inclined people. Per its website, VIP is a community space for tall folks. Here, tall people are eligible to receive exclusive discounts to brands, access Tall Tour privileges, and socialize with like-bodied members of the community – without the usual neck-craning.
There is a height requirement for the VIP, which is:
- 5’8 for ladies
- 6’1 for gentlemen
Available VIP tour merchandise include a selection of hats, hoodies, and t-shirts. The organization also features the Vertically Inclined People collection, which features various jokes/expressions a tall person might say or hear, such as:
- “the weather is fine up here.”
- “can you move your seat up?”
- “yes, i’m tall”
- “yes, i can dunk”
- “always in the back of the photo”
The Tall Tour was created as a series of social media interview by founder, Tyler Bergantino, a gentleman who stands 6’9″. The social media project evolved into what’s become a large-scale tour.
“People crave community and want to be part of something so they don’t feel alone,” Bergantino said,
Tall Tour: Houston takes place this Saturday, May 16, from 6 pm – 10 pm at Tom’s Watch Bar at 1201 Caroline St. Suite #161. The event is 21+. Tickets are required for entry. General Admission starts at $25. General Admission + early entry tickets are available as well for $40.
For those of us short queens and kings, a community meet-up will be taking place the same night down the way at The Hobbit Cafe – only joking.
