While the week started off with a brief cold spell, this weekend will see Houston in warm temperatures in the upper 80s. Stay cool at Doña Leti’s. The vibrant Houston taqueria, known for its tantalizing birria tacos and colorful beverages have made a new claim to fame: the first Texas establishment to serve soft-serve margaritas.
If you’re not hyper-online, soft-serve margaritas has of late been a massive social media phenomenon. Its original invention technically traces back to 1971, when a Texas restauranteur rigged his ice cream machine to make the world’s first frozen margaritas. That machine is now owned by the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, by the way .
Earlier this past March, a Mexican restaurant out of Cleveland brought a new flavor to the trend of soft-serve margaritas. Videos of La Playa Mexican Food & Mariscos‘ colorful, swirly soft-serve margaritas became a nationwide social media phenomenon – leaving many in search of the sweet, refreshing cocktail.

Answering the call in Houston is Doña Leti’s. As featured on the restaurant’s socials, the Doña Leti’s is now serving a fabulous variety of soft-serve margaritas – and boy did they come through. Presently, the restaurant offers a range of flavors that include strawberry, mango, and mixed – all of which feature the signature, multi-colored swirl. For a little Mexican twist, the restaurant also offers a “Mangonada” flavor – mango soft-serve sprinkled with tajin and chamoy.
This isn’t Doña Leti’s first stint in virality. Videos of the restaurant’s slow-roasted beef birria oft make the rounds on TikTok and Instagram. The restaurant’s surf and turf egg rolls are also a must-try.
Soft-serve margaritas are available at both Doña Leti’s locations: at 7340 Washington Ave and 10425 S Post Oak Rd. The restaurants is open from 11 am – 10 pm from Tuesday through Saturday and from 11 am – 9 pm on Sundays.
