Another day, another list highlighting the glory that is Houston’s gastronomy scene. On the heels of Southern Living’s “Top 50 BBQ in the South“, go-to reservation technology company Resy has announced its inaugural list of the best restaurants in the country: the Resy 100. Coming in on the top 10 is Houston’s own, Kira. Continue the article below for more details.
Published earlier this past September, Resy deployed a list of contributors to rank among the over 10,000 restaurants in the Resy system, determining the standard for exceptional dining. As put in their words:
“This is a curation of restaurants that thrill us, that serve exceptional food that alternately might be comforting or daring, traditional or completely new. These are places that make us want to return again and again, and define the best of our dining culture today”.

The article also makes a point that the list isn’t only new restaurants, nor those with renowned chefs, nor solely based in major cities. Coming in at No. 7 on the list is Kira in Houston.
Located in the Upper Kirby area, Kira is a cozy, Japanese 15-seat counter restaurant in Upper Kirby. Thematically, the restaurant – lead by chef-partners Luis Mercado and Paolo Justo – takes its inspiration from Japanese vinyl bars, going so far as to harmonize its cuisine – sashimi, temaki, and donburi – with its state-of-the-art sound. Earlier this year, Texas Monthly named Kira as the fourth best new restaurant in Texas.

Here’s what Resy had to say of Kira:
“They give as much attention to plating and presentation as they do to the flavors. I always save room for dessert—their kakigori, hand-shaved and put together right in front of you, is arguably the best in town”.
Kira is located at the Shops at Arrive River Oaks at 2800 Kirby Dr Suite b-128.
Kira wasn’t the only Houston restaurant on the Resy 100. At No. 16 is BASO in The Heights and at No. 92 Da Gama, also in The Heights.
