Park Eight Place is slated to take over the former Halliburton campus in Westchase in a massive $1 billion development. Upon completion, the roughly 2‑million‑square‑foot project is expected to include residential, office, retail, restaurant, and hotel space and is billed as Houston’s first developer‑initiated ‘Walkable Place’ under the city program.
Spearheaded by Johnson Development Services, Park Eight Place was announced as a 70‑acre mixed‑use ‘urban village’ in Westchase several years ago and advanced through key city approvals in 2024. In collaboration with Gensler, TBG, and BGE, the development is described as a 70-acre, urban village in the Westchase District near Bellaire Boulevard and Beltway 8.
Retail, residences, office, and green space at Park Eight Place
The initial project includes retail, restaurants, office, hotel, and more than 2,000 residential units. Notably, developers aim to integrate the project into its natural surroundings. Among a dynamic network of plazas, trails, and green spaces, Park Eight Place will directly connect to the 200-acre Arthur Storey Park.
Furthermore, Park Eight Place will connect into the Brays Bayou Greenway system via Arthur Storey Park, creating a new destination along the Brays Bayou trail network.
Walkability at Park Eight Place
In November 2024, the City of Houston approved Walkable Places and Special Parking Area designations for Park Eight Place, making it the city’s first developer‑initiated Walkable Place under the program.
“We are developing Park Eight Place as a defined walkable place because it’s the right thing to do,” said Charles Lusk, General Manager of Park Eight Place in a press release.
“It’s intended to benefit people who desire being outdoors and want more exercise — even in an urban setting — and it will create a framework to support local businesses that allows people to easily stop into those businesses. Additionally, companies located here will have the conveniences their employees desire all within a five-minute walk. And those are just some of the benefits.”
Timeline of Park Eight Place
Site work on Park Eight Place began after demolition of the former Halliburton buildings, and infrastructure and road construction were projected to start in late 2024 or early 2025. The project is described as ‘underway,’ but no firm opening date has been publicly announced, and the official website still promotes it as ‘coming soon.’
