A massive $1 billion glow-up is coming to Westchase! Park Eight Place is completely transforming the former Halliburton campus into a sprawling, 2-million-square-foot urban destination. Packed with apartments, offices, shops, restaurants, and a hotel, it’s also making history as Houston’s very first developer-initiated “Walkable Place.”
Spearheaded by Johnson Development, with design and planning by Gensler, TBG, and BGE, Park Eight Place is a 70‑acre mixed‑use development in the Westchase District near Bellaire Boulevard and Beltway 8. First announced several years ago as a planned “urban village,” the project secured key city approvals in 2024, including Houston’s first developer‑initiated Walkable Places and Special Parking Area designations.

Mixed-Use Amenities and Green Space Integration at Park Eight Place
The initial phase of Park Eight Place will include more than 2,000 residential units alongside retail, restaurant, office, and hotel space. A core design goal is to integrate the development with its natural surroundings, notably, through a network of plazas, trails, and green spaces that provide direct access to the 200‑acre Arthur Storey Park, ultimately connecting to the broader Brays Bayou Greenway trail system.
“Park Eight Place will reflect Houston’s global tastes through eclectic culinary options, culture and entertainment, retail and conveniences, hotel and hospitality offerings, healthcare and wellness amenities that are all driven by a commitment to environmentally friendly and sustainable design and technologies,” said Michael Cox, President of Johnson Development Services, in a press release.
Prioritizing Walkability at Park Eight Place
In November 2024, the City of Houston approved “Walkable Places” and “Special Parking Area” designations for Park Eight Place, marking the first developer‑initiated project approved under the city’s urban planning program.
Emphasizing the project’s pedestrian‑centric design in a press release, General Manager Charles Lusk stated, “ [W]ithin Park Eight Place, you will find everything you need and all within a five- to eight-minute walk from your door. Park Eight Place will emerge as a vibrant urban village where health, connection, sustainability and convenience converge.”
“It’s intended to benefit people who desire being outdoors and want more exercise — even in an urban setting — and it will create a framework to support local businesses that allows people to easily stop into those businesses. Additionally, companies located here will have the conveniences their employees desire all within a five-minute walk. And those are just some of the benefits.”

Timeline of Park Eight Place
Demolition of the former Halliburton campus is complete, and site and infrastructure work—including road construction—is now underway. Vertical construction is targeted to begin in early 2027. The project is described as “underway,” but no firm opening date has been publicly announced, and the official website still promotes it as “coming soon.”
