Here in the thick of the holiday season, all the shopping, festivities, and mania can be a little overwhelming. If you’re looking for somewhere in Houston to slow down, take a trip to Old Town Spring, a nostalgic and walkable shopping village filled with small town charm.
Located in Spring in Northwest Houston, Old Town Spring was originally the home of a 19th century railroad hub. Today, the area is still alive in well as a bustling village populated with over 150 artisan retailers, apothecaries, parlors, and all sorts of hidden gems.
In a single afternoon, visitors can peruse an arsenal of hot sauces at Peace, Love, and Peppers, sift through records at Space City Audio, score Kazak wares at The KazakHouse, channel the other side at BOOtique and Paranormal Emporium, and top off at one of multiple hat stores in Old Town Spring. Either/or, visitors can collect Duetscheland goodies at German Gift House, pair wine with your hangover fries at Envy Wine Room, and find antique treasures at BRB Resale.
Though the quaint little shopping village in Houston might be a secret to some, many probably know some of award-winning tenants, including Corkscrew BBQ, Houston’s only Michelin-star barbecue restaurant.
If the line is too daunting, you can walk around the corner to grab a burger (maybe even catch some live music) at Puffabelly, nosh on a Slow Dough Bavarian Pretzel at Prohibition, take down a couple Sausage Sauerkraut Balls at Wunsche Bros. Cafe & Saloon, or crush a festival funnel cake at The Loose Caboose.
Those with a sweet tooth are advised to check out Puerto Rico baking at Buren Bakery, pack your pockets with homemade fudge at The Little Dutch Girl, and/or pop over to Ma & Pa Kettle Korn.
As bar for bars and drinking holes, you can find small batch beer at Excalibur Brewing, wine pairings at the aforementioned Envy Wine Room, and/or craft cocktails and live music at MB Speakeasy.
All to say, it’d be a much longer article if we were to mention everything that we love about Old Town Spring in Houston. If you’re looking for a quaint place to shop with one-of-a-kind retailers, indulge in award-winning barbecue and other great eats, or hidden pocket of Houston to explore for an afternoon, consider taking a trip to Old Town Spring!
