The prestigious international architecture and design award, Prix Versailles, recently dropped its 2026 “World’s Most Beautiful Museums List.” Out of the seven global projects recognized, only one is located in the United States—and it happens to be just a few hours up I-45 in Arlington, Texas.
Our neighbors to the north at the National Medal of Honor Museum have officially been recognized as having one of the most breathtaking museum designs on the planet among awe-inspiring architectural marvels in cities like Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Guangzhou, China, and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emigrates.

Having just opened its doors in March 2025, this Arlington landmark was designed by the renowned Rafael Viñoly Architects. It serves as a soaring tribute to the brave members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have been awarded the nation’s highest military decoration.
The building’s architecture isn’t just visually stunning; it’s deeply symbolic. Prix Versailles praised the museum’s monumental staging and narrative power, particularly highlighting the steel-clad Exhibition Hall. This massive structure actually hovers 40 feet in the air above a beautifully landscaped open-air courtyard known as the “Field of Honor,” a design choice meant to embody the immense sacrifice of Medal of Honor recipients.
As you explore the space, you’ll notice five massive columns supporting the exhibition hall, representing the traditional branches of the U.S. military. At the heart of the museum is a stunning oculus—a nod to the U.S. Space Force—that pours natural light down into the Rotunda of Honor.
Visitors are carried up to the immersive galleries via striking sculptural spiral staircases and glass elevators, embarking on an emotional journey through the lives and legacies of our nation’s great heroes.

Presented in collaboration with UNESCO, the Prix Versailles celebrates buildings that highlight creativity, art, and harmony. Jérôme Gouadain, the Secretary General of the Prix Versailles, noted that the 2026 list was chosen for elevating sites with “extraordinary narrative power” and serving as a source of inspiration for all.
Whether you’re a history buff, an architecture lover, or just looking to explore something truly world-class without leaving the Lone Star State, this incredible space is well worth the drive up to the DFW metroplex.
National Medal of Honor Museum is located at 1861 AT&T Way in Arlington, Texas. The museum is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm.
