As impeccable as the Houston skyline is, it only makes sense that the city offer fantastic rooftop bars and restaurants. While we might not have the ubiquity as say New York, Houston is home to a wide array of rooftop bars, restaurants, theaters, and more. This early 2026, JW Marriott will add a new rooftop destination in the city with The Perch.
JW Marriott Houston is presently in the midst of a multi-million dollar expansion and renovation. Along with The Perch rooftop and bar, the renovation includes the transformation and incorporation of the historic Battelstein’s Building ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Battelstein’s Building originally opened as a department store in 1924. Under architect Joseph Finger, the building expanded to 10 stories by 1950. Eyeing an early 2026 opening, the hotel would add 10,000 square feet of space as well as rooms and suites totaling its room and suite count to 384 and 89, respectively.
Furthermore, the renovation includes a ground floor restaurant and lounge redesign led by Rottet Studio as well as a new rooftop bar, restaurant, and pool. Anchored to the pool deck, The Perch restaurant will feature elevated, yet approachable dishes rooted in seasonal, local flavors by Executive Chef Rafael Gonzalez.

Open for lunch, happy hour, and dinner, the restaurant will feature a beverage program cocktails, local craft beer, and globally-inspired wines – as well as non-alcoholic options.
“This initiative represents an exciting evolution for the JW Marriott Houston Downtown,” said the hotel’s general manager, Jelle Vandenbroucke.
“We are not just adding rooms—we are redefining the guest experience by creating a hospitality destination that captures the energy, diversity and sophistication of Houston.”
“The addition of the rooftop pool and restaurant not only provides a high-end amenity and attraction for our guests, but also becomes a chic destination for locals,” said Misty King, the director of sales and marketing.
