While the city continues to attract the masses – Houston has for the fifth year in a row been the most moved to city in the country – it also seems to be drawing the wrong crowd. The mosquito crowd.
According to a new report from Orkin, Houston is the No. 7 worst city in the country for mosquitos. The study found Los Angeles, California as the worst city for mosquitos for the sixth year running.

To determine these rankings, Orkin tracked the number of new mosquito treatments performed at residential properties from March 18, 2025, through March 18, 2026. The 10 worst cities for mosquitos in the U.S. are as follows:
- Los Angeles, California
- Chicago, IL
- New York, NY
- Detroit, MI
- Atlanta, GA
- Washington, D.C.
- Houston, TX
- Dallas, TX
- Cleveland, OH
- Denver, CO

“Over the past decade, we’ve seen mosquito activity expand beyond traditional hotspots and become a nationwide concern,” said Shannon Sked, Orkin entomologist in a press release. “While major cities continue to experience consistent pressure, emerging trends—especially in the Midwest—show how shifting climate conditions and the expanding range of the yellow fever mosquito are creating new hotspots across the country.”
