Located in Seabrook along Clear Lake, Barge 295, is a two-story bar, gastropub restaurant, and outdoor waterfront venue. As reported by Houston Chronicle, the beloved bar sunk in wake of Hurricane Beryl.
A half-hour outside of Houston at 2613 NASA Parkway, Barge 295 has been a beloved local bar and waterfront venue in the Houston area since 2017. In addition to its fresh take on seafood-spun, gastropub cuisine and no-frills beverage menu, Barge 295 also featured an outdoor venue called The Yard fitted with picnic tables, a volleyball court, and a live music stage.
On Monday, July 8, the evening of when Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas, the bar’s co-owners, Michael Hessemer and brothers Mike and Patrick Robinson, discovered that the barge upholding the bar had been sunk. Additionally, the deck was severely damaged; windows of the bar itself broken in amidst a pile of debris revealing that the main bar had been submerged in up to five feet of water.
“I’m thinking about all our employees that are going to lose an opportunity to earn money for their families, and about the community that isn’t going to be able to enjoy this unless we can get it going again,” Patrick Robinson told the Houston Chronicle.
The bar’s owners are still in the process of assessing the damages. In order to fully assess the damage, owners will first have to raise the barge out of the water.
As for its future, the bar’s owners are uncertain. Of course, Barge 295 will be shut down for the time being, but owners will try to bring it back. If need be, the Robinson brothers said that they would replace it with another.
“It’s a Texas landmark, and we’re sure going to try,” Mike Robinson told the Houston Chronicle.
