When will the hard freeze hit Houston?
Forecasters predict that the cold front will arrive around mid-day Saturday, January 18. Though experts expect sunny conditions this Saturday, with temperatures somewhere in the upper 60s, they expect temperatures to fall into around 40 degrees through the evening and overnight.
Sunday morning, particularly unfortunate for the Houston Marathon runners, will be cold with lows in the 30s. Space City Weather predicts wind gusts between 20 to 30 mph, making it feel even colder. While temps will rise into the upper 40s during the day, experts predict for temperatures in Houston to drop to freezing overnight.
“Very cold weather is set to arrive in SE Texas early next week with Hard Freeze temperatures and very low wind chill values likely,” NWS Houston wrote in a post on X/Twitter. “We are also monitoring the potential for winter precipitation during this period”.
How long will the hard freeze last in Houston?
Forecasters expect cold weather with mostly cloudy conditions and light precipitation from Saturday, January 18, into Thursday, January 23. In this time frame, lows will average just below 30 with highs in the mid-to-upper 30s. According to forecasts, temperatures will climb on Thursday with highs in the upper 40s, and will continue to climb into the weekend.
What are the chances of it snowing in Houston?
The highest probability of it snowing in Houston will be on Monday or Tuesday. As of now, the chances of snow in Houston aren’t high but as Space City Weather put it: “there’s a non-zero chance of snow or sleet on Monday, Monday night, or Tuesday”.
National Weather Service predicts the following for next Tuesday: “A mix of wintry precipitation will become lighter and intermittent late. Very cold. High 31F. Winds NNE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of [precipitation] 70%. Snow and ice accumulations less than one inch”.
