Modeled in the image of a small village, Mi Tienda is a bustling grocery space filled with a diversity of Mexican and Central American goods that offers the same premier shopping experience of a neighborhood H-E-B.
Mi Tienda was opened as a subsidiary Mexican grocery brand of H-E-B back in 2006. Located at Spencer Hwy 1630 Spencer Hwy, the initial space occupied 48,000-square-feet. Five years later, executives expanded Mi Tienda with their location at 3800 Little York Rd, doubling the size of the first location at an expansive 98,000 square feet.
Regional vice president of H-E-B, Juan Alonso told Houston Chronicle that the new layout was modeled in the image of a small village in which each department emulates pueblo-like structures.
Along with its quality selection of Mexican and Central American products, the service at Mi Tienda delivers on the authentic experience wherein all employees speak Spanish.
Furthermore, Mi Tienda features an in-house Agua Fresca bar in the middle of the store. The grocer also features a tortilleria, where customers can observe (and later enjoy) as tortillas, chips, and masa are made.
At Mi Tienda, customers can also find traditional Mexican candies; spices and seasoning; regional cheeses (including from Honduras and El Salvador) from the cheese shop; tacos, tortas, and tamales from the cocina; staple cakes ranging from tres leches, to pan dulce, to bolillos; traditionally marinated Mexican meats; as well as seafood and chicken options not available at regular H-E-B outlets.
During the holiday season, Mi Tienda also whips up delicious traditional tamales.
Mi Tienda is open at 1630 Spencer Hwy and 3800 Little York Rd in the Eastex Shopping Center from 7 am to 11 pm daily.
