It’s sure cold right now, but this winter chill – and winter as a whole – will be over before we know it. In anticipation of warmer pastures, Discovery Green has announced its spring program including the return of Screen On The Green, The Rink, and other seasonal favorites!
While it might not seem it right now, spring is on the horizon. And for Houston, that means much more than warmer weather. Every spring, Discovery Green, puts on a variety of exciting seasonal events to get Houstonians out and about. Recently, the organization announced its Spring 2022 Programming Lineup.
The Rink
From Friday, March 4, to Sunday, April 11, Houstonians will have the chance to skate at the foot of the Houston skyline.
“Houston’s first outdoor roller rink thrives under the lights of downtown,” the organization wrote in an email. “Enjoy five weeks of roller-skating fun (including weekly theme nights) at Discovery Green. Non-motorized wheelchairs are welcome. Tickets are $12 plus tax and are available for purchase beginning Feb 21.”
The rink will be hosting daily skates with a different theme for every night of the week, including Time Warp Tuesdays, Clutch City Wednesdays, FUNomenal Fridays.
On opening night, Friday March 4, the first 50 skaters in line will be able to skate for free.
Screen on the Green
Put the pup on the leash and round up the kiddos, folks, because Discovery Green is reprising their Downtown park cinema, Screen on the Green presented by Bank of America this March!
The spring program, beginning with a screening of Luca on Friday, March 18, will include a variety of family-friendly movies. Food, beer, and wine will be available at The Lake House.
Other screenings include: A League of Their Own (April 2), Encanto (May 7), and Sing 2 (June 11).
UHD Thursday Night Concert Series
Discovery Green will also return its season concert series. This year’s lineup includes a variety of talented musicians ranging in genres from Regional Mexican music to “sad boy soul”. Taking place from 7 pm – 9:30 pm on Thursday nights starting on April 7, the lineup is set to include such acts as Negami, AJ McQueen, Las Fenix, Girl Ultra, and more.
Most notably, none other than H-town legend, Paul Wall, will close off the concert series with Doc Loc & the Swangers and DJ Mav on May 19.
Fitness Classes
Discovery Green also plans to bring back its variety of fitness classes beginning March 1 this spring. Presented by the J.W. Couch Foundation – ironic name, isn’t it? – Discovery Green will host publicly-available outdoor classes in core-focused yoga, interval training, pilates, hatha yoga, and tai chi.
