As it stands, Houston is down 2-0 in the American League Championship Series against the Texas Rangers going into what could be an elimination game for the ‘Stros. If a comeback is in order, it’ll be to the sweet detriment of most of the country.
Betonline, an online betting platform, recently conducted an analysis of team-specific hashtags, coming to the conclusion that only Louisiana and Texas (by a small margin) are rooting for the Astros.
The analysis surveyed over 130,000 posts on X (Twitter?), measuring the number of geotagged hashtags #Ready2Reign in support of the Houston Astros and #GoAndTakeIt in support of the Texas Rangers. In 48 of those states, latter was more prominent.
In Texas – one of the two states in favor of the Astros – the inclination for the Houston team was only slightly above the Texas Rangers coming in at 57% in support of the ‘Stros.
For Houston, the shade is nothing new. Last year, before the Astros would go on to win the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Houston team only had support of six states. In 2021, when the Astros went up against the Braves, countrywide support for the Astros was limited to a mere three states.
Haters going to hate.
